The goal with this paper was to reflect on my understanding of educational technology and how it intersects my own philosophy of education. My philosophy steams from my time working toward a career in medicine, before a career change pulled me in another direction. I am a scientist at heart so I believe and preach to my students that there are no dumb questions.
There are no aligned standards for this document. I do, however, go into great detail on which standards are my preferred standards. Spoiler alert! It's ISTE. I believe ISTE to be a more clear and concise set of standards.
This is an in depth review of the two major standards we've explored. ISTE and AECT. Researching these standards really solidified my liking for ISTE. As a cybersecurity professional who's had to study a lot of policy I appreciate things that are clearly and concisely written. I found that, for me, the ISTE standards are better organized and due to their detail can help guide an Educational Technology beginner.
At the start of our Ed Tech journey we were tasked with putting our lofty goals onto paper to help us understand what we wanted out of the program. I have always wanted to contribute to the field I'm working in. While goals change overtime I know that one part of my goals will stay the same. I want to leave my industry better than when I joined it.
